English Language
The article “whose culture are we taking about? Attitudes both to immigrants and foreign languages in schools, and taking for granted that Britain should be a monoglot society. This is bad history, and it will be bad for our future” the author Deborah Cameron to talk about how the English language will change in the future and how the language is dependant on business sometimes. The New Labour has two proposals. The first one is in a green paper, that to remove foreign languages means to make English their first language and then allow foreign language study from the age 14. The second is in white paper applicants for British should be in English. People who are not speaking foreign language is natural for most of us and it's not require, but for foreign to speak our language is good for enough to give them a full membership of our community. British citizens must speak English. For adults, it's impossible for them to memorize the language, and they think that their children will be like them. In fact, some people can survive their whole life without using English. That tells us that multilingualism is not alien to our traditions. To be a British citizenship does not require people to speak English or take a test. The idea is to keep our nations together. To learn the English language, is required between the age 11 and 14, and most schools will not employ many language teachers. English is a global language; the global language is the only one that anybody needs to know.
Reaction:
I agree with the author’s idea which is that the English language is neither easy to learn. In fact, I think the British citizens must speak English. And I think the most important ideas are the age for learning English should be from young age and most schools will not be able to put many languages teachers. I like this kind of article because it is easy to get the main idea from the article. In fact, this article is not short, but it’s easy to read. There is little difficult vocabulary; lastly it's also helpful for the foreign readers. But, I believe it needs some examples.
